What is Implicit Bias?
Implicit biases are the unconscious prejudices and stereotypes that can manifest within institutions and individuals. Because we are all shaped by our own specific backgrounds, experiences, and belief systems, everyone has implicit bias. It is important to recognize and actively combat our implicit biases so that we can be successful volunteers in communities outside of our own. Using the tools below, begin the process of determining what biases you have, that you may not have even realized existed.
Project Implicit by Harvard University includes the IAT, the Implicit Association Test, which measures your associations on different subjects, ranging from race to politics to gender. This is a great resources because it encompasses a wide array of different biases, and gives you quick results.
