Eight Strategies for Creating a More Inclusive Volunteer Program by the Forum on Workplace Inclusion: "Many organizations struggle to engage volunteers who reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of the communities they serve. In response to this issue, the Minnesota Association for Volunteer Administration (MAVA) recently embarked on a research study which resulted in the development of a set of eight strategies for creating a more inclusive volunteer program within nonprofit and government organizations. These strategies serve as a starting point for leaders who are seeking concrete next steps to better engage volunteers from racially diverse and immigrant communities."
Addressing Unique Challenges in Creating a Culturally Inclusive Classroom During COVID-19 | Responsive Classroom:The unique classroom safety requirements brought on by COVID-19 present new challenges for creating and reinforcing behavioral expectations. Social distancing, working independently, wearing masks, and fulfilling deadlines require self-control, empathy, and responsibility. Educators and school leaders anticipate and proactively teach expectations, yet can still be met with refusal, defiance, or misbehavior. This webinar explores these unique challenges while identifying developmental and cultural implications, strategies for preventing misbehavior, and respectful practices to respond to misbehavior and help students get back on track.
Purposeful Steps Away from Ableism by Alyson Seale: Ableism is a hidden ‘isms’ embedded in society—a belief in the superiority of typical able bodies/able minds over bodies/minds falling outside our definition of normal. What if we deconstruct the binary able/disabled and construct differences of body/mind as part of our beautifully diverse human continuum? How would that look? Where do we even start? Let’s not get theoretical—let’s get real. By purposefully examining ableism, we can take action improving our society. TEDxChilliwack 2018 took place on April 13, 2019 at G. W. Graham Theatre in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada.
